Path to Freedom Founder

Many men and women with a felony record have difficulty acquiring a job that enables them to live a self-sustaining life–paying the rent, mortgage, car note, childcare, etc. Faced with these odds, many return to a life of crime and inevitably back to prison. While serving at St. John’s Downtown, Dr. Chism founded and organized the Path to Freedom. The ministry, which consists primarily thought not exclusively of volunteers who have been formerly incarcerated or have loved ones incarcerated, aims to provide hope and inspiration to men and women entangled in the prison system. Under Dr. Chism’s leadership, ministry participants also developed a passion for activism and partnered with community activists in establishing the Texas Advocates for Justice (TAJ). TAJ members work to reform the criminal justice system in Texas and throughout the nation.
